Here’s a list of web links that caught my eye this week:
Creating a Canine Travel Emergency Kit – (works for any household animal) I love this idea, and if you travel with your pets in your car, even if it’s locally, it makes sense to be able to notify emergency workers about who else was in the vehicle with you. Most accidents happen within 5 miles of home (of course, I think that’s because we are most frequently within 5 miles of home, but the caution still stands).
How to talk to someone with mania – this comes up from time to time in various of my communities. Sometimes we have someone who is “a little” too excited, “a little” too passionate, “a little” too scattered, and they go off the rails. I always liken the difference between hypomanic and manic as the difference between extreme shopping spree and a high speed chase with Oakland PD (especially if you don’t live in Oakland). People who are hypomanic are extremely productive and may be straying into problematic territory, but aren’t usually making too much of a mess. Someone having a full-blown manic episode is likely ranting, has some crazy ideas, and may not have slept in an unhealthy amount of time. This is a really good guide for the layman who might be confronted with this situation.
Cosmic Dirt had some really good things to say about earth movement in the second half of her March 29th update, along with her own suggested links for dealing with natural disasters.
