[Monday Message] Focus on you

When you keep your focus on you, your life will run much more smoothly. That is not to say that it’s all about you; on the contrary, minding your business more than the business of others allows you to be on equal footing with everyone, because we are cells in the Body Divine and equally deserving of respect. Do you like it when other people are overly concerned in your affairs?

All you have control over are your actions and reactions.

That’s it.

And really, you only have control over your reactions when you have some tools you’re using. That’s one of the differences between humans and many animals, by the way – we can think through our actions before we act, so that we can bring tools into play if we need to.

Act honorably. Always carry yourself so that you can be proud of your actions. If you wouldn’t do it in front of another person, don’t do it. It’s that simple. This is what I mean when I say to focus on you.

Understand, also, that you have no control over how people are going to perceive your actions, nor what they are going to say about their perception. And it really doesn’t matter. When you carry yourself with honor, enough people will know that you are honorable, regardless of what a few people may say.

When you concern yourself with what people think or say, you give your power away, both to other people and to your negative ego. You no longer act honorably, you start to act with the idea that you can influence how people think. You waste your energy. It is a recipe for unhappiness at best. When you focus on you, you conserve your energy for things you do have control over, and you are much more effective.

This post is part of a series called Monday Message, based on that day’s reflection from 365 Days to Enlightenment (authorized versions are currently out of print, working on a new edition). Check back next Monday for another one! You can also sign up for the Daily Message on my mailing list if you’d like to receive a new reflection every day. I also often post them to Instagram, if that’s a medium you enjoy.
